Search Tips

All fields are optional. When selected, fields work together to limit your search results. For example, if you would like to search for all Decisions filed in 1995, you would select Decisions from the Type of Case field and 1995 from the Case Year Filed field, selecting all other fields as "- All -" .

You may want to limit your search even further by selecting a disability type. This search would deliver all decisions of the chosen disability type that were filed in 1995. If you wish, you could limit you search even further by adding an Issue, Procedural Topic, and/or keywords to your search criteria. Each time you select another field you limit your search results.

Keyword*: Enter words that will help limit your search.

Type of Case: Specify which type of case to search for.
Order - An order addresses a narrow issue, often procedural. One example is whether hearing dates should be continued.
Decision - The result of a full hearing with evidence and testimony. The decision addresses the substantive issues in the case. One example is which educational program is appropriate for the student, and whether the school district failed in the delivery of those services.
Orders and Decisions - Lets you search for both types of cases.

Case Number: Type ONLY the NUMBER of the case. In the SEHO database a typical case number is 3 digits.

Public School District: Enter the name of a public school district.

Case Year Filed: Select a year.

Issue: Select an issue.

Procedural Topic: Select a procedural topic.

Type of Disability: Select a disability type.

Return: Choose the number of subject headings you would like the search engine to display on each page.

*The keyword field does not support Boolean operators such as AND and/or OR. You do not need to use quotation marks ("") to delimit your search words.

When you are ready to retrieve records from the database, click on the Start Search button at the bottom of the page.
